From one of my previous posts, you may have noticed that focus is difficult for me ;). I decided to improve this, but I needed more help. I learned about meditation music through one of Phil's posts and decided to try it. He claims that the music can get you to a meditative state directly and I wanted to give it a try. The verdict? It works great! I sit down, put in my headphones, and go into a state of thoughtless zen. My body feels light and airy. Meditation is like being half-asleep: you can hear things going on around you, but they sound far away. While I sit on my blanket yoga-style, I feel so calm and relaxed.
Yet, meditation makes me uncomfortable at the same time, because I don't have complete control over what is going on. Companies that produce meditation music inform their customers, "Do not listen to this while driving or performing other activities for which you need to be alert," and I understand why. Just seconds after I put on my headphones, I feel my body going into a relaxed state...whether I want it to or not. I feel my brain slow down and my head becomes slightly heavy. The first time I tried deep meditation music, I began hyperventilating because the loss of control made me anxious and I started breathing really fast. I tried a lighter level of music the next time around and things went much better...I need baby steps, I guess.
As far as the benefits are concerned, I can say that my sleep has definitely improved. I used to wake up several times a night and now it's maybe once.
