The Safety of "Natural"

Whenever I come to a professional challenge, sometimes I retreat into the idea that this isn't what I am meant to do...it isn't what I'm good at. I have this belief that the things I'm good at and the things I'm "supposed" to do will employ my natural abilities. However, in thinking this way, I somehow elevate "natural" to the highest power in one's life and then hide behind it. Clinging to what I believe is "natural" allows me to excuse myself from a challenge. I forget about the skills I am very proud to have that did not come naturally to me. I also forget that sometimes "natural" requires an unlocking. When I started ballroom dancing, I wasn't pleasant to watch...I've seen the old practice videos. However, dancing became more natural to me as I put in the hours of training. Sometimes nature has to be constructed, shaped. I'm hoping that curiosity is enough of an indication that a challenging task is worth pursuing.
